An impressive stone-built Victorian country house by the A3, set in attractive grounds at the end of a lime tree avenue.

There follows an estate agent’s description from 2007, but what may be of more interest are some of its residents. During World War II Hurtmore House was used by Canadian officers and was a known gambling den at the time. More recently it has been the home of footballer Ashley Cole and his celebrity wife Cheryl, formerly a singer with the group Girls Aloud, who spent several million pounds enlarging it.

Description from 2007

9 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, entrance hall, 4 reception rooms, study, kitchen/breakfast room, domestic offices, cellars, annexe comprising 3 bedrooms, bathroom, 2 reception rooms and kitchen, garaging for 10 cars, tennis court, swimming pool with pool house, gardens and grounds of about 12.8 acres.

In addition to the main part of the house is a 3 bedroom annexe.

There is a heated swimming pool with a pool house that comprises a changing room, 2 wcs and a kitchenette; also a summer house.

The property is entered down a mature lime tree avenue to a sweep in front of the house. From there a Victorian terrace leads round to the south side of the house which includes a BBQ area and an attractive awning. The view from here looks out over an ornamental pond and on to the meadow. To the west of the house is a level lawn, the enclosed swimming pool area and beyond that the tennis court.

Next to the tennis court are a fruit cage/kitchen garden and greenhouse. The grounds are fully enclosed and surrounded by largely mature hardwood trees.
