Hurtmore Quarry

Hurtmore Quarry

The quarry, source of much of the local bargate building stone in the area, with the first few houses of Quarry Road  in the background. In the Noughties the site was the source of a bitter fight between local residents and a local landowner who wanted to re-open the quarry for financial gain. Sarah dedicated all her spare time to the Stop the Quarry campaign and eventually the scheme was dropped. The evidence submitted by Anthony Isaac on behalf of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England was thought to have been crucial.
