Colonel Nicholson’s Diaries

Colonel Nicholson brought up his family in Norney Rough. His wife Phyllis was a reasonably well-known writer and produced a book named after the house , describing life there as a ‘country chronicle’. The website editor has a copy if you would like to read it.

Their daughter Sally, who married Stephen Bolton in the church up the road,  continued to live there until her death in 2012.

Their daughter Sue moved not far away, to Royal Common where she ran a plant nursery.

Col. Nicholson kept a vivid and colourful diary of village life, and you can read or download below an excerpt from the years 1933-1953
